How To Get Back Deleted Emails On Mac?

In this growing world of digital users everywhere, gone are the days where people still know what a stamp is for. The word “mail” is now synonymous with the electronic essays we send either via our desktops, laptops, or even our phones. Sometimes, we even treat emails as text messages.

Nowadays, sending email is the norm and even toddlers are also able to do it. On the flipside, and as tech-savvy as we’ve become, it’s still very possible for us to end up deleting our emails accidentally and not know how to get them back. Hopefully, this article will be able to guide you to recover emails that were somehow trashed.

How do people delete their emails, anyways?

Don’t you just hate it when you’re working on something and the power suddenly cuts off or you simply get distracted? Or you forgot to save your work and the next thing you know – all your blood, sweat, and tears just went down the drain?

It happens, and it’s not your fault sometimes because you can even get maliciously attacked by ransomware and lose all your data overnight.

Thankfully, there’s the easy way, as well as the slightly more challenging way but we’ll walk you through.

Can you recover permanently deleted emails?

The truth of the matter is that everything’s up in the cloud, though not literally. This means that the majority of the email providers you use such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Fastmail, and Hotmail are connected online to a database that will never take up your personal storage space on your computer.

This is why whenever you sign up for any of these accounts, they would give you storage space within their database so you can think of that as “cloud storage”. What this also means is that if you delete your emails with these web applications accidentally, you can still very easily restore them. Take Gmail for example:

  • Firstly to the left of your Gmail account, you should be able to see the standard “Inbox” and other categories. If you scroll down all below, you should see “More” to click on, and you’ll be able to scroll down further to see “Trash”.
  • This “Trash” folder is essentially where you will find all your deleted emails. For the most part, unless your emails have huge attachments amounting to a few MBs or larger – you shouldn’t ever need to delete your emails.
  • Once again though, accidents happen so in this folder you may select the desired emails you wish to have restored into your inbox.

The key thing to note here though is that anything in “Trash” will be permanently deleted from 24 hours to a few weeks depending on the email service provider.

The good news is that Microsoft Outlook, also technically Hotmail (being the same company) is its feature to be able to store emails offline, which means personal storage is used instead of cloud storage. As such, there’s no “deadline” to permanent deletion.

However, it also means that Microsoft Outlook is more vulnerable to accidental email deletion and unfortunately simultaneously – harder to recover compared to email service providers with cloud storage.

Best email recovery tool for MS Outlook

Thankfully, there’s an incredibly reliable software called Recoverit for recovering lost data and deleted files, including emails!

Whether it’s an audio, video, image file, or even emails – this app can restore it and even provides a free file scan preview before recovering the data. Needless to say, it is also cross-device and works across desktops (Windows and Mac OS), flash USB drives, and even SD cards.

The tool is also free and easy to use, as all you have to do after installation is to launch the app and you’ll be guided accordingly to recover your deleted file in 3 easy steps:

Step 1: Launch the Recoverit software on your Mac

After installation and launch, you should see the above view. What you need to do after is to choose the location that you’re trying to recover your missing file from, and click “Start“.

Step 2: Scan the location

While you might not know the exact name of the file, you should know its type of format and you can filter to narrow and speed up the search. Halfway through the scan you can always pause or stop if you find what you need to recover sooner.

Step 3: Preview to pinpoint your desired file

Whether it’s an audio, video, image, word, or PDF file even – you’d be happy to know that you can preview its contents before deciding whether you want to recover it.

After that, it’s just a simple click of the “Recover” button.

Other applications of Recoverit Data Recovery software

Besides being able to recover email data, the tool works in the broader sense that if you lose or may have had a file corrupted for any reason – they can still be repaired or recovered.

Whether the file is deleted or corrupted from file partition, SD card, internal or external hard drives – they can all still be retrieved. It also doesn’t matter whether it’s audio, video, image, or basic document as long as it’s your standard, accessible data.

More advanced features come with the tool, for example:

  • You can pause or stop scanning once you see the file you’d like to recover rather than going through the entire process of scanning
  • Deep and quick scanning not only allows you to reach further into your database, but its well-developed software makes the scans a lot faster so you don’t have to wait as long
  • Another speed hack to use would be the filter option, which narrows down exactly the type of file you’re seeking to recover in the first place
  • Preview function that shows you exactly what you’re about to recover before actually recovering it. Most of the time, you don’t want to recover an entire folder when you’re just after a couple of files

Do note that if you’re downloading the software, ensure that you’re getting the latest version (9.6) which supports Apple T2 and M1 Chipset.

Closing words

All in all, if you ever need to recover any lost files at all, the Recoverit Data Recovery software tool can bring back a plethora of data, and more importantly the blood, sweat, and tears that are your hard work.

Nobody ever wants to see your efforts wasted, especially not to the likes of a power trip or a malicious ransomware attack.
